On April 30, 1832, the school was opened as the "Neue Töchterschule auf der Friedrichstadt" (New Daughter School on Friedrichstadt) in Schützenstraße; from 1863 it bore the name "Königliche Augustaschule" (Royal Augusta School) and moved to Kleinbeerenstraße in 1886.
