                    <p><persName ref="nognd">Elsa Davidsohn</persName> was born as <persName ref="nognd">Elsa Coper</persName> on <date when="1903-07-08">July 8,
                            1903</date> in <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7003712">Berlin</placeName>. Her parents ran a store selling ready-to-wear
                        clothing, where <persName ref="nognd">Elsa Coper</persName> also worked
                        after her apprenticeship as a <roleName>dressmaker</roleName>, taking over
                        the business after her father’s death in <date when="1929">1929</date>. In
                            <date when="1930">1930</date> she married and a few years later, she
                        operated a larger clothing business in <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7032552">Berlin-Friedrichshain</placeName>. After the business had been
                        destroyed during the <ref target="http://d-nb.info/gnd/4135539-8">November
                            Pogrom</ref> in <date when="1938">1938</date>, her husband, who was
                        particularly at risk, fled to <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7002445">England</placeName>; <persName ref="nognd">Elsa Davidsohn</persName> managed to escape on the last
                        emigration transport in <date when="1939-10">October 1939</date> to
                            <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7004540">Palestine</placeName>, where she reunited with her husband in <date when="1945">1945</date>. Following his death, in <date when="1958">1958</date>, she returned to <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7000084">Germany</placeName> with her
                        friend <persName ref="nognd">Senta Levy</persName>, choosing <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7005289">Hamburg</placeName>, <persName ref="nognd">Levy's</persName> birthplace, to settle down. <persName ref="nognd">Elsa Davidsohn</persName> died there on <date when="2006-04-13">April, 13, 2006</date> at the age of 102. She gave the

                with his wife and daughter, who was 17 at the time, uncles, aunts, cousins were
