                        Choosing <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7005289">Hamburg</placeName> as a venue for the exhibition, curated by <persName ref="http://d-nb.info/gnd/119365863">Goral</persName>also meant
                        returning to the city from which he had been expelled by the National
                        Socialists. At the same time, the organizational questions clarified in the
                        reciprocal letters also point to more general aspects of the relationship to
                            <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7000084">Germany</placeName>

                    you an invitation to the opening<lb/>of an exhibition entitled “Kindermalereien
                    aus <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/1000119">Israel</placeName>”
                    [“Children’s Paintings from <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/1000119">Israel</placeName>”]<lb/>as well as a circular about the events
                    associated<lb/>with this exhibition.</opener>
                <p>Even though there is hardly any chance that you,<lb/>dear Mr. <persName ref="http://d-nb.info/gnd/117321265">Lüth</persName>, will have the
                    opportunity<lb/>to visit the exhibition yourself, I think it is
                    nevertheless<lb/>appropriate to inform you of this event. This
                    seems<lb/>especially the case because in <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/1000119">Israel</placeName> itself, where I
                    have been living<lb/>for 15 years, I have heard about your thinking and<lb/>work
                    with regard to an understanding <note type="editorial">[between Germans and
                        Jews]</note>.<lb/>In the same way I gathered last year from the German
                    press,<lb/>which was sent to me in <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/1000080">Italy</placeName>, numerous
                    publications<lb/>concerning your efforts. Last but not least,<lb/>I was very
                    deeply touched by your militant stance in the<lb/><persName ref="http://d-nb.info/gnd/118545981">Harlan</persName> affair.<lb/></p>
                <p>This exhibition is a selection from a larger<lb/>collection of children’s work,
                    created in the context of the<lb/>Children’s Studio founded and directed by me
                    in <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/1000119">Israel</placeName>.<lb/>The sheets have already been shown several times in
                        <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/1000003">Eur<gap reason="lost"/></placeName><lb/>and have been received with great interest
                    everywhere.<lb/>Now, it constitutes the first time that an event of this
                    kind<lb/>in connection with <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/1000119">Israel</placeName> is taking place here in <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7000084">Germany</placeName>.<lb/>The
                    undertaking involves great risk for me personally,<lb/>but I hope that the
                    result will have the<lb/>intended effect. I do have the impression<lb/>though
                    that the people involved are very<lb/>interested in the matter.<lb/></p>
                <p>May I ask you, dear Mr. <persName ref="http://d-nb.info/gnd/117321265">Lüth</persName>, whether you see any ways<lb/>of drawing attention to this
                    event in<lb/>the public (press <choice>
                        <abbr>etc.</abbr>
                        <expan>etcetera</expan>
                    </choice>) in <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7005289">Hamburg</placeName>?<lb/>– To me, <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7005289">Hamburg</placeName> in particular
                    holds<lb/>considerable memories, as I spent my childhood<lb/>and youth there
                    with my family<lb/>and left my <placeName ref="http://vocab.getty.edu/tgn/7005289">hometown</placeName> in <date when="1933">1933</date>.<lb/></p>
