The workload carried by all our committees was undiminished this year. (Austrians, Romanians). Their number may be presumed to be about 6,000, so that a total of 35,007 Jewish emigrants made their journey from Hamburg. Unfortunately, exact statistical information as exists for Bremen was not available, and thus we had to depend on estimates in our calculations regarding which countries the Jewish emigrants went to.

The total Jewish and non-Jewish emigration via Hamburg is reflected in the following numbers.

We had calculated the number of Jewish emigrants at about 35,000, that is 22½ % of total emigration. We may assume that the share of Jewish emigrants among those migrating to the above-mentioned countries is about the same.

In order to provide the numerous Jewish emigrants in Hamburg with sufficient and effective care, we had established a local chapter of our Central Bureau for Jewish Emigration there in the previous year. Under the thoughtful and experienced leadership of our executive committee member, Mr. Paul Laskar, to whom we would like to express our heartfelt thanks, the Bureau has performed its varied and difficult tasks with great skill and remarkable success.
