Our congregation, which has suffered
for so long under the pressure of exceptional
laws and their consequences, even after
their elimination, begins gradually
to breathe again. We already possess the
institutions and organizations indispensable
to every congregation and in a form
appropriate to our circumstances; we have a
balanced budget and may be allowed to hope
for a favorable, continually progressing future
development.
For this outcome, next to divine help,
the benevolence of our high officials, and the
willingness to sacrifice of our own members,
we have to give very special thanks also
to the warm participation and lively
interest always and ever shown us
by our sister-city
We feel the need to show
ourselves thankful and know
essing our gratitude
than by appointing
you, Esteemed Lord
as honorary memberin our congregation. By word
and
deed you have constantly demonstrated
your good will toward us, using your
decisive
influence on the honored members of the great
congregation
under your care on our
behalf. In all times of emergency, you
have
placed your officials at our disposal, and during
the settling of
formalities regarding our officiating rabbis you have
taken the requisite
functions
upon yourself. You were a sincere friend of
our late rabbi and
from the beginning you
have, with your long experience
and counsel,
stood as a friend by the
side of our present rabbi.
And you will in the
future - we are certain
of this - remain a loyal friend and
champion of
our congregation.
Therefore, on the basis of Article 4
of the amendment to the Statutes of the
